Bernd Leifeld

Bernd Leifeld (born June 27, 1949 in Heggen , Olpe district ) is a German dramaturge , director, theater director and cultural manager.

Life and work

Leifeld studied German, drama and pedagogy at the Universities of Cologne and Berlin (FU) and graduated in 1975 with the state examination for teaching at grammar schools. During his studies he worked as an assistant director at the Renaissance Theater Berlin (1971) and at the theater coom in Cologne (1974). His first independent directorial work at the Wuppertaler Bühnen was invited to the 1st Mülheimer Theatertage in 1976. In 1980, Bernd Leifeld was dramaturge at the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen before becoming acting director at the Staatstheater Kassel . From 1984 to 1991 he was director of the State Theater Württemberg-Hohenzollern Tübingen (LTT). After teaching dramaturgy at the University of Tübingen , he worked as a lecturer at the University of Basel . From 1993 to 1995, Bernd Leifeld was dramaturge and acting director at Theater Basel. From January 1, 1996 to March 31, 2014 he was managing director of Documenta und Museum Fridericianum Veranstaltungs GmbH in Kassel . He worked with the artistic directors Catherine David (dX), Okwui Enwezor (D11), Roger M. Buergel (d12) and Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev (d13). As managing director of the Kunsthalle Fridericianum, he was partner of the artistic directors Tilman Osterwold, René Block, Rein Wolfs and Susanne Pfeffer.

Bernd Leifeld is the father of a daughter.

Awards

For his production of Alfred Bergmann's play Nina + George , Leifeld received the audience award at the 1st Mülheim Dramatist Prize in 1976. Since 1991 he has been the holder of the Hölderlin plaque of the university town of Tübingen for special services as director of the LTT. The magistrate of the documenta city of Kassel awarded Leifeld the coat of arms in 2014. In 2014, the State of Hesse awarded Leifeld the Hessian Order of Merit .
