Bernd Markert

Bernd Markert (* 1971 in Mayen ) is a German civil engineer and professor at RWTH Aachen University , where he heads the Institute for General Mechanics .

Career

After graduating from high school , Markert began studying civil engineering at the University of Stuttgart and graduated in 1998 with his diploma. Markert stayed in Stuttgart and did his doctorate in 2005 at the Institute for Mechanics with Wolfgang Ehlers. He then worked at this institute as a research associate and academic senior counselor.

In 2010 he completed his habilitation, was appointed adjunct professor in 2013, and in the same year he was appointed to RWTH Aachen University, where he took over the management of the Institute for General Mechanics from Dieter Weichert in August 2013 .

Research and Teaching

Bernd Markert's research activities focus on the areas of biomechanics , structural mechanics and continuum mechanics . In addition, Markert supervises various courses at RWTH Aachen University and holds lectures with up to 1,600 participants. In order to be able to respond to individual questions from the auditorium, Markert purchased a new SIM card and published the associated telephone number so that he could receive messages from students during the lecture via the WhatsApp instant messaging service . When his approach met with a great response from the students, a "direct feedback" function was integrated into the university's own mobile app .
