Bernd Pröschold

Bernd Pröschold (born Bernhard Marcel on June 8, 1976 in Siegen ) is a German photographer and author . He lives and works in Cologne.

Time lapse photography

Bernd Pröschold became known to a larger audience through astronomical time-lapse videos . For his recordings he traveled to remote regions of Europe, Africa and South America, where the night sky is not illuminated by light pollution . Since 2004, Pröschold has been working with day-night transitions in his time-lapse videos - a technique that later became known as "Holy Grail Timelapse". In some settings he follows the course of the stars with the help of astronomical mounts , whereby the rotation of the earth becomes visible against the background of the starry sky. He made corresponding recordings for the installation artist Tomás Saraceno, among others .

Several TV magazines and documentaries were dedicated to Pröschold's work, including a. produced for Arte, WDR and Swiss television. In addition, Pröschold's recordings found their way into numerous television productions in Germany and abroad as well as into several DVDs. Pröschold is a member of the TWAN photographer network .

Pröschold published several journal articles and books on the subject of astronomy . In addition to photographic aspects, his texts deal with the question of extraterrestrial intelligence and the culture-specific requirements for corresponding discoveries.
