Bernd Rüschoff

Bernd Rüschoff is a German English and linguist with a focus on applied linguistics and a specialist didactic and media scientist .

Life

Rüschoff studied from 1973 to 1977 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster the subjects English and Russian teacher , then studied at the University of Alberta in Canada and eventually received his doctorate in 1982 at the University of London in the UK . He has been teaching at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 1998 , where he heads the Didactics - Applied Linguistics - Technology-Supported Language Learning Department at the Institute for Anglophone Studies . The main research focus is on foreign language didactics , the use of digital media in foreign language teaching , principles of language acquisition and corpus linguistics and its potential for foreign language learning processes. Other areas of work are bilingualism and early foreign language acquisition as well as aspects of intercultural learning in foreign language classes. From 1993 to 1998 he taught English as a professor at the Karlsruhe University of Education . From 1983 to 1993, Bernd Rüschoff headed the department for language teaching and language teaching research at the AVMZ (media center) of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

In August 2011 Rüschoff was elected President of the World Association for Applied Linguistics - AILA Association Internationale de Linguistique Appliquée . He held this office until his resignation from the AILA executive as Past President until 2017.
