Bernd Schönegger (born January 29, 1977 in Graz ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 2008 to 2017 he was a member of the Austrian National Council . He is married.

Life

Schönegger passed the Matura at the federal boarding school in Liebenau and then studied law. He completed his studies with the academic degree Mag. Jur. from and is managing director of the Grazer Volkspartei. Schönegger was regional chairman of the student union , deputy federal school spokesman and deputy chairman of the Young People's Party in Styria. He was also chairman of the Young People's Party in Graz and Graz municipal council .

Schönegger is party chairman of the ÖVP Graz- Geidorf and has been a member of the National Council since 2008. Schönegger was the top candidate of the ÖVP in the 2008 National Council election in the Graz regional constituency and moved into the National Council through this direct mandate. He was sworn in as a MP on October 28, 2008. In the National Council of the XXV. In the legislative period , Schönegger was the national defense spokesman for the ÖVP parliamentary club.

Telecom affair

On June 7, 2016, Schönegger was sentenced to nine months of conditional imprisonment for infidelity . The court saw it as proven that he had been involved in the municipal council election campaign in 2008 in forwarding funds from Telekom Austria to the ÖVP. Rudolf Fischer , among others, was also accused, but was acquitted. Schönegger appealed against the judgment. On August 30, 2017, it became known that the Supreme Court overturned the judgment and referred it back to the first instance with the recommendation to examine whether the offense of serious fraud had not occurred. On April 6, 2018, he was acquitted of all allegations.
