The Aglasterhausen Castle , also called Weiler, Burg Weiler, Weilerburg , is an abandoned hilltop castle on the Schlossbuckel at about 210 m above sea level , 15 meters above the Schwarzbach near the Weilermühle in the municipality of Aglasterhausen in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden- Württemberg .
history
The castle was probably built at the end of the 12th century by the Lords of Aglasterhausen, who appear in documents from the Speyer diocese in 1224, 1226 and 1227 . The castle itself was first mentioned in a document in 1421. At that time, the facility described in the document as "burgel und weiler" was owned by the Asbach branch of the gentlemen of Helmstatt and was sold by them to the gentlemen of Hirschhorn . In the following year, they gave the castle a fief to the Count Palatine near Rhine . The castle was probably destroyed by fire in the Peasants' War in 1525.
description
In the castle it was a simple tower castle with a dungeon ( Tower House ) on an area of about 11.5 by 12 meters and two meters thick wall. The kennel was about 20 by 22 meters and the outer wall about 1.1 meters thick. The castle also had a ditch that protected the castle from the mountain. Remnants of the foundation walls were excavated in 1959, but then destroyed.
