Bernd Theilen (born January 20, 1945 in Jever ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1974 to 1994 he was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament and from 1994 to 2003 President of the District of Weser-Ems .

Life

After graduating from the Mariengymnasium in Jever in 1964, Bernd Theilen started working for the Post. Three years later he passed the exam for the upper-class postal service and was employed at the Wilhelmshaven post office .

Theilen joined the SPD in 1966. He took over the chairmanship in the SPD district Weser-Ems and was a member of the SPD advisory board. He was a member of the supervisory board of the Oldenburg energy supplier Weser-Ems AG . In the city of Jever he was elected to the city council from 1972 to 1986 and was an alderman there . In 1972 he was first a member of the district of Friesland and deputy district administrator, and finally district administrator there in 1986. He was also a member of the Broadcasting Council of the NDR from 1970 to 1981 and, from 1984, a member of the State Broadcasting Committee.

From June 21, 1974 to 1994, Theilen was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament (8th to 13th electoral term). From June 12, 1990 to June 20, 1994 he took over the deputy chairmanship of the parliamentary group of the SPD and from July 10, 1986 to June 20, 1990 the chairmanship of the budget and finance committee.

In August 1994, he was the last district president of the region of Weser-Ems appointed and held this office by 2003.

Bernd Theilen is married and has one child.
