Bernd Warkus

Bernd Warkus (born July 17, 1951 in Staßfurt ; † July 23, 2020 in Meißen ) was a German xylophone virtuoso and entertainer .

Act

Warkus came from a family of musicians; Marga Warkus' son was the third generation to play the four-row vaudeville xylophone. He had his first appearance in 1961 at the Staßfurt Theater . In 1964 he was the winner of the talent show Heartbeat Free . Warkus, who was also called the sorcerer on the xylophone , played well-known melodies from operas, operettas and musicals on the xylophone with his spoon-hammers on the xylophone and on the ringing discs that are reminiscent of gears . Bernd Warkus appeared on GDR television a. a. on the show A Kettle Colorful . In total, he had almost 2000 appearances on four continents in the course of his career.

His first-wedded son René Bernd Warkus continues the family tradition as a virtuoso on the vaudeville xylophone, 30 years after his father he was also winner of Heartbeat Free in 1994.

Personal

Bernd Warkus lived in Meißen and had been in a relationship with his artist manager Ullrich Baudis since the 1980s. Since 1996, Warkus and Baudis have been running various catering establishments in Meißen and Krögis . On June 20, 2012 Warkus married his partner in second marriage; Groomsmen were his son and Dagmar Frederic . Warkus died of cancer shortly after he was released from the hospital .
