Der Bärnerbär (until May 2017 Bernerbär ) is a free advertisement for the city and region of Bern , published by IMS Medien AG. It was usually published twice a week from 1983 to the end of June 2010 - just like the official Berne publication organ Anzeiger Region Bern - but one day earlier each time: on Tuesday and Thursday. Since June 29, 2010 it has only been published on Tuesdays, with the subtitle Berns Wochenzeitung .

Its editorial content is essentially limited to local tabloid journalism with numerous photo reports of events, portraits and interviews as well as a detailed part of the event. The centerpiece is the whispering bag with «facts from the rumor mill». In addition to print, the current issue is also available as an e-paper on the website as well as an archive of past issues.

Matthias Mast headed the editorial team from November 1999 to February 2012 . In almost every issue he commented on politics in Bern, Switzerland and the classe politique from his personal perspective.

Between 2011 and the beginning of 2016, Jean-Claude Galli was editor-in-chief, then Markus Ehinger. Yves Schott has headed the editorial team since November 2017. The journalistic director is Dominik Rothenbühler.

Freelance workers - formerly Barbara and Markus Traber , for example - could once again be hired for multi-page interviews and reports . The Polosophy rubric each brought a new saying from “Poloet” Polo Hofer , who has published these sayings in three volumes so far. A cartoon by Ted Scapa appeared weekly for years .

The Bärnerbär has been owned by IMS Medien AG since January 2017 . In June 2017 the newspaper was renamed from Bernerbär to Bärnerbär and its layout was changed.
