Bernerhaus (Baden)
The Bernerhaus (also called the former Bernerhaus ) is a listed building in Baden , Switzerland . It is in the western part of the old town on Weiten Gasse, halfway between the city tower and the district building . Of the remaining buildings of the Old Town, it differs by the canton of Bern widespread, but almost unknown in the eastern Aargau EASONS .
Baden was the 15th and 18th century the most important meeting place for the Tagsatzungen of Confederation , but only Bern possessed here own flophouse for its emissaries. From 1564 they first stayed in the house "Zum Grünen Berg" on Cordulaplatz. In 1665, Bern exchanged this building for a larger one in Weite Gasse. Soon it no longer met the high requirements and was demolished in 1676. Then a new baroque building was built according to the plans of foreman Abraham Dünz , which was completed in March 1678. During the Baden Peace Congress of 1714, the French ambassador Charles-François de Vintimille du Luc lived here ; his study on the first floor is also a listed building. In 1719, Bern acquired the adjoining house on Mittleren Gasse, had it demolished in 1734 and replaced by a new building, which is connected to the front part via a gallery. Today there are several shops and apartments in the Bernerhaus.
