Bernhard Günther (born January 8, 1967 in Leverkusen ) is a German manager . He has been Chief Financial Officer ( CFO ) of the energy company Innogy since April 2016 .

Life

Günther studied economics in St. Gallen and Oxford . After graduating in 1992, he worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company from 1993 to 1998 . From 1995 to 1998 he did his doctorate in economics at the University of St. Gallen . In 1999 he joined RWE AG, initially as head of group controlling , and from 2001 as head of corporate planning and controlling . In 2005 he became Head of Group Controlling. In 2007 Günther became Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of RWE Gas Midstream GmbH. From November 2007 he was also Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of RWE Trading GmbH. In April 2008 he moved to RWE Supply & Trading GmbH as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer. In July 2012 Günther was appointed to the Executive Board of RWE AG. From 2013 until the split in 2016 he was Chief Financial Officer of RWE AG.

On March 4, 2018, two perpetrators carried out an acid attack on Günther in Haan , in which he was seriously injured. He was released after three weeks in the clinic. The Finance magazine reported on 24 October 2019 that a suspect was arrested, while a second suspect was still on the run; there is suspicion in the room that the assassins may have acted on behalf of a competing manager. In November 2019, the arrest warrant was revoked because no urgent suspicion could be proven against the suspect. The investigation continues.
