Mykyta Wolodymyrowytsch Aljeksjejew ( Ukrainian Микита Володимирович Алєксєєв , Russian Никита Владимирович Алексеев , Nikita Vladimirovich Alexeyev18th May 1993 in Kiev ), mostly known as Alekseev , is a Ukrainian singer and songwriter . In 2018 he represented Belarus at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon .

biography

Alekseev gained notoriety in 2014 after reaching the semifinals on The Voice of Ukraine . His first single Pjanoje solnze was a huge success in the successor states of the Soviet Union .

First it was announced that Alekseev would take part in the national preliminary round of Ukraine, Widbir , before withdrawing his participation. Instead, he took part in the Belarusian preliminary decision with his song Forever . In the run-up to the preliminary decision, there was a controversy, as a rule of the Eurovision Song Contest says that the participating songs may not be published before September 1st. Alekseev had previously sung a Russian song called Навсегда at his concerts. By shortening the song and translating it into English, he circumvented this rule. Some other finalists of the Eurofest threatened to withdraw their participation if Alekseev was allowed to take part in the final with his song. Ultimately, however, Alekseev won the preliminary round and now represented Belarus in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. However, after participating in the first semi-final, he was unable to qualify for the final of the competition.
