Widbir 2018 ( Ukrainian Відбір 2018 , English transcription Vidbir 2018 ) was the Ukrainian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon ( Portugal ). It took place in February 2018 in the Center for Culture and Art ( Центр культури і мистецтв ) of the " KPI " in Kiev . Mélovin won the Under the Ladder title and will represent Ukraine in Lisbon.
format
concept
UA: PBC uses the same concept as in the two previous years. In the first part, auditions are held throughout Ukraine. In the second part the three live shows follow. A total of between 14 and 20 contributions should again take part in the show. These are divided into two semi-finals, with three participants each qualifying for the final. Six participants will compete in the final. All three shows are voted 50% by jury voting and 50% by televoting.

Choice of contribution
From October 10, 2017 to January 15, 2018 there was the opportunity to submit a contribution to the Ukrainian television UA: PBC. The selection of the contributions was made by the Ukrainian music producer Ruslan Kwinta .
Attendees
On January 16, UA: PBC announced the 18 contestants via Twitter . The songs and composers have not yet been fully announced. However, some of them have returned to the competition. Illaria, Mélovin and Tayanna all took part in the competition in 2017 and reached the final there. Pur: Pur was a finalist in the first edition of the competition in 2016.
Semifinals
The semi-final draw took place on January 19, 2018, where it was decided in which semi-final the respective artist will appear. The performers had already been divided into two semi-finals. The exact starting places were drawn by the performers themselves.
First semi-final
The first semi-final took place on February 10, 2018 in the Palace of Culture "KPI" . Three participants qualified for the final. In addition to the performances of the participants, Czech interpreter Mikolas Josef also appeared with his ESC contribution Lie To Me . Also O.Torwald , Ukraine's ESC representative in 2017 , occurred.
