Widbir 2019 ( Ukrainian Відбір 2019 , English transcription Vidbir 2019 ) took place on February 23, 2019 and was the Ukrainian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv ( Israel ).

MARUV emerged as the winner with the song Siren Song and would therefore have represented Ukraine in Tel Aviv. Due to contractual complications of the station UA: PBC, MARUV withdrew from participation on February 25, 2019, whereupon the station announced renegotiations with other participants of the preliminary decision and the interpreter and the song for the competition in Tel Aviv are now to be decided internally . Since they could not come to an agreement with another performer over the course of the following week, UA: PBC withdrew its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 on February 27, 2019.

format

concept

UA: PBC uses the same concept as last year . In the first part, auditions are held throughout Ukraine. In the second part the three live shows follow. A total of between 14 and 20 contributions should again take part in the show. These are divided into two semi-finals, with three participants each qualifying for the final. Six participants will compete in the final. All three shows are voted 50% by jury voting and 50% by televoting.

jury

On December 30, 2018, UA: PBC announced that the jury, which will make up 50% of the result, will consist of the same people as the previous year.

venue

Once again, the program takes place in the Center for Culture and Art ( Центр культури і мистецтв ) of the " KPI " in Kiev .

Choice of contribution

From October 18, 2018 to January 8, 2019, contributions could be submitted to UA: PBC. The original submission deadline was January 15, 2019. As in the previous year, the selection of the entries was made by the Ukrainian music producer Ruslan Kwinta.

Attendees

On January 9, 2019, UA: PBC presented the 16 participants. Among them are Brunettes Shoot Blondes, who took part in Widbir in 2016, Kazka and Laud, who both took part in Widbir 2018 , and Tayanna, who tried to represent Ukraine in the Song Contest in 2017 and 2018 .

The semi-final draw will take place on January 22, 2019, where it will be decided in which semi-final the 16 participants will compete.
