Lake Malawi is a Czech indie pop - band .

history

The band was founded in September 2013 in Třinec by singer Albert Černý after his previous band Charlie Straight broke up.

In 2014 the band released their first song, Forever June . In the same year, the band performed frequently at major Czech music festivals such as Colors of Ostrava and Rock for People . In addition, she also took part in The Great Escape Festival in the UK. Lake Malawi was also the opening act for concerts in Prague by artists such as The Kooks , Mika and Thirty Seconds to Mars . In 2016, the drummer and former member of Charlie Straight Pavel Palát left the band and was replaced by Antonín Hrabal.

In 2017 the band released their debut album Surrounded by Light . At the end of 2017 the guitarist Patrick Parpentski left the band.

In January 2019 it was announced that she would take part in the Czech preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv , Israel . On January 28, 2019, they were announced as winners and represented the Czech Republic with the song Friend of a Friend . In this they made it to the finals and finally reached 11th place.

In 2020 the singer of the band, Albert Černý, who himself went to school in Poland, accepted the Polish preliminary decision for the ESC ( Szansa na Sukces Eurowizja 2020 ) and was able to achieve 2nd place in the final.
