The 2nd Eurovision Song CZ took place on January 28, 2019 and was the Czech preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv , Israel . As in the previous year , the preliminary decision took place entirely online.

The winner was the band Lake Malawi , who took first place with their song Friend of a Friend , which was written by Jan Steinsdoerfer, Maciej Mikolaj Trybulec and Albert Černý.

format

As in the previous year, the Czech representative was again determined via a national online preliminary decision. The preliminary decision was therefore not broadcast on television. In the end, eight performers competed against each other, with the winner being determined 50 percent by online voting and 50 percent by an international jury. The latter was made up of former Eurovision participants and former Eurovision jury members. The online voting also ran again via the official Eurovision app. Everyone could vote, but only votes from the Czech Republic were counted for the result. The votes from abroad were summarized as one jury member in the jury voting.

Choice of contribution

From August 31, 2018 to October 31, 2018, contributions could be submitted to ČT . The broadcaster does not look for any specific genres and also allows all composers to choose the language. Only the singer has to be a Czech citizen, otherwise composers can come from abroad, for example.

On November 2, 2018, ČT announced that they had received 300 contributions, which is about 100 fewer than the previous year. However, 60 pieces by Czech musicians have been submitted, almost twice as many as in 2018.
