Ari Ólafsson

Ari Ólafsson [ ˈaːrɪ ˈouːlafsɔn ] (born May 21, 1998 ) is an Icelandic singer . He represented his country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 with the song Our Choice .

Ari Ólafsson grew up in Reykjavík and spent part of his childhood in Florida . Selma Björnsdóttir discovered him when he was eleven years old. In this way he got the main role in the musical Oliver! , which was performed in the Borgarleikhúsið . Since then, Ari Ólafsson has appeared on the stages of Iceland. After the Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebø became aware of him in 2011, she invited him to various performances. In 2015 Ari Ólafsson took part in the Icelandic version of the singing competition The Voice . In 2018 he prevailed against eleven competitors in the Söngvakeppnin 2018 , the Icelandic decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . His song Our Choice , which he performed in English at the Söngvakeppnin , was written by Þórunn Erna Clausen. He could not qualify for the final of the competition after participating in the first semifinals.
