Jón Jósep Snæbjörnsson or Jónsi for short (born June 1, 1977 in Akureyri ) is an Icelandic pop singer .

He grew up in northern Iceland and moved to the capital Reykjavík in 1997 . There he became the singer of the newly formed pop-rock band Í Svörtum Fötum, with whom he had released four albums in the 2000s.

He was selected by a jury to represent his country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul . There he came 19th with the ballad Heaven . For the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku he won the preliminary round with the singer Greta Salóme . Together they performed the title Never Forget , which was subsequently translated into English , with which they could qualify for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest four days later. There they landed tied with Jedward in 20th place.
