Selma , with full name Selma Björnsdóttir , (born June 13, 1974 in Reykjavík , Iceland ) is an Icelandic singer. She became known internationally through two appearances at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1999 and 2005.

biography

Selma grew up in Garðabær , a community near Reykjavík. Sang in her childhood, and she danced and performed with ten years occurred in the opera Noah's Arc ( Arche Noah ) to. After school she played in a theater.

In 1999 she won the Icelandic preliminary round of the Grand Prix and took second place there. Six years later she won the preliminary round again, but could not qualify for the final in the semifinals.

Performances at the Eurovision Song Contest

When Selma appeared with All Out Of Luck in 1999 , she was accused of orienting the song too much on the Swedish contribution from 1991. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU for short) allowed Selma to perform. It came in second, the best that Iceland has ever achieved up to that point.

In 2005 she was nominated directly by the broadcaster. She was considered one of the big favorites in the competition with her song If I had your Love . However, she failed in the semifinals.

In 2006 she accompanied Silvia Night to Athens and defended the (criticized) appearance of the fictional character.
