Widbir 2020 ( Ukrainian Відбір 2020 , English transcription Vidbir 2020 ) was the Ukrainian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam ( Netherlands ) and took place on February 22, 2020. The band Go_A won the preliminary round with the song Solovey .

format

concept

On October 16, 2019, the Ukrainian public broadcasting company Nazionalna Suspilna Teleradiokompanija Ukrajiny (NTU) and the private television broadcaster STB announced the continuation of the Widbir concept and the cooperation between the two broadcasters.

In response to what happened during the preliminary round last year and Ukraine's withdrawal from the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 , NTU changed the rules of the preliminary round. Only performers who have not entered Russian territory since 2014 or are not planning to enter it during the period of the preliminary decision and the Eurovision Song Contest are allowed to take part. The same goes for the Crimea .

STB wants to take over the running production costs and NTU wants to support the winner of the preliminary decision financially during the preparation for the Eurovision Song Contest.

jury

The jury should again consist of three members.

Choice of contribution

From October 16, 2019 to January 20, 2020, composers had the opportunity to submit a contribution to STB. The application deadline for potential candidates ended on December 25, 2019.

Attendees

The participants and their songs were presented on January 20, 2020.
