Bernhard Krieg (born November 3, 1868 in Weiler in the mountains ; † August 16, 1943 in Ehingen (Danube) ) was a Roman Catholic priest , Konviktsvorsteher in Rottweil, rector of the grammar school in Ehingen a. D. and founder of the antiquity association for the Ehingen district.

Origin and education

Krieg was born as the son of the farmer Bernhard Krieg and his wife Katharina geb. Rötter born; he had ten siblings, three of whom did not survive the first five years.

In autumn 1884 he entered the Konvikt in Ehingen a. D. a. From 1888 to 1894 he studied philosophy and theology at the University of Tübingen . He was a Konviktuale, d. H. Student of the Wilhelmsstift .

Even before him, relatives of his were studying theology as Konviktuale in Tübingen, both of whom came from Weiler in the mountains: Alois Krieg, née. February 13, 1853 from 1872 to 1876; and Josef Krieg, b. October 7, 1853 from 1875 to 1880, died January 19, 1880.

In 1891 Bernhard Krieg received an extraordinary prize from the philosophical faculty, and in 1892 a prize from the theological faculty, lost by lot. In the subsequent doctoral studies, he acquired the academic degree of Dr. phil.

Professional career

He was ordained a priest on July 19, 1893 and was second vicar in Heilbronn from September 1, 1893 . On April 26, 1894, he was a repetiteur at Wilhelmsstift in Tübingen for five years . On March 6, 1899, he was given leave of absence for a scientific trip to Italy, which took him to the classic sites of educational tourists (such as Florence, Rome, Naples with Pompeii). After his return he was appointed curator of the Preceptorate Chaplaincy in Riedlingen on June 21, 1899, and a month later on July 28, 1899, he was appointed to the position of chaplain and professor at the Latin School there. After another four years he became a Marienkaplan and professor at the high school in Rottweil. Finally he rose there to the Konviktsvorsteher (from February 14, 1907). He reached the end of his pedagogical and theological career when he was appointed rector of the grammar school in Ehingen a. D. September 1, 1908.

War historical interest led him to join a circle of men soon after taking office in Ehingen, who wanted to found an antiquity association for the upper administrative district of Ehingen (today "Museumgesellschaft Ehingen eV"). At the founding meeting of the association in March 1909, Krieg was elected its first board member. Krieg held this position until his death in 1943.

On July 4, 1925, he was promoted to senior director at the Ehingen grammar school. In October 1925 he was decorated with the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of Frederick.

After 26 years of service in Ehingen, he retired on March 1, 1934 (at the age of 65). On the same day he received the honorary citizenship of Ehingen.

retirement

During his retirement, Krieg devoted himself to researching the history of the most important place of his career, the city of Ehingen. In 1939 the result of his research on the parish church of Sankt Blasius was published as a "quick art guide". However, he was no longer able to publish his comprehensive research results on Ehingen. The priest friend in Griesingen , Franz Michael Weber , set himself the goal of publishing these results , which, expanded by Weber's own extensive research, was published in book form in 1955.

Bernhard Krieg died in Ehingen on August 16, 1943 at the age of 74.
