Bernhard ("Berni") Niederberger (born September 29, 1993 ) is a former Swiss ski racer who specialized in the disciplines of slalom and giant slalom .

biography

Niederberger comes from Beckenried in the canton of Nidwalden . From December 2009 he began to participate in FIS races at the age of 15 , initially in all disciplines. In 2010 he became Swiss junior champion in the super combined . The first appearances in the European Cup followed in January 2011. The first victory in an FIS race he achieved in February 2012. At the Junior World Championships 2012 in Roccaraso Niederberger won the bronze medal in the team competition . In the same year, two more Swiss junior championship titles were added, in the downhill and in the Super-G .

Niederberger made his World Cup debut on January 13, 2013 in the giant slalom in Adelboden , where he was eliminated in the first round. The best result at the 2013 Junior World Championships in Québec was 5th in the downhill. During the 2013/14 season, Niederberger began to specialize in the slalom and giant slalom disciplines. He won another medal in the team competition, the silver one, at the 2014 Junior World Championship in Jasná . At the end of the 2013/14 season, he became Swiss slalom champion. On January 6th, 2015 Niederberger won World Cup points for the first time, finishing 21st in the slalom in Zagreb . The first European Cup podium followed on January 22nd. He ended his active career after the 2017/18 season.
