Bernhard Rudolf Fetscherin

Bernhard Rudolf Fetscherin (born January 2, 1796 in the canton of Bern , † February 6, 1855 in Bern ) was a Swiss historian and politician .

Life

Fetscherin studied theology in Bern, founded a fraternity and had to continue studying as a liberal in Germany. In 1820 he returned to Bern, where he headed the orphanage from 1823 to 1833 . From 1833 to 1845, Fetscherin was Bernese Grand and Government Councilor , where he campaigned for the school and church system. In 1846 he was overthrown with the election of Charles Neuhaus , became a member of the Constitutional Council and then retired from politics.

Fetscherin was a Freemason , Philhellene and member of the Helvetic Society , which he presided over in 1843. He co-founded the Allgemeine Geschichtforschende Gesellschaft der Schweiz and in 1846 founded the Historical Society of the Canton of Bern , which he presided over from 1847 to 1855.

His estate is in the Bern Burger Library .
