Bernhard Wieland

Bernhard Walter Wieland (born January 20, 1952 in Geneva ) is a German mathematician and economist . From 1999 to 2017 he held the chair for transport economics and international transport policy at the “Friedrich List” Faculty of Transport Science at the Technical University of Dresden .

Wieland is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Upper Elbe Transport Association .

Life

From 1971 Wieland studied mathematics first at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and, later, at the Free University of Berlin , where he graduated with a diploma in 1977. In 1979 the doctorate followed at the same university.

From 1980 he was a research assistant at the German Institute for Economic Research in Berlin, from 1982 at the Scientific Institute for Communication Services in Bad Honnef . In 1987 he became a research assistant at the University of Cologne . In 1994 he completed his habilitation there, with Carl Christian von Weizsäcker , in economics. From 1994 to 1997 he was a research assistant and professor for economic policy at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1997 he was briefly professor for economic policy at the Fernuniversität Hagen .

From 1999 to September 2017, Wieland was Professor of Transport Economics and International Transport Policy at the Technical University of Dresden. His areas of work include questions of regulation in the transport sector, the pricing of infrastructure, the positive theory of regulation and transport policy in the European Union .

After his retirement, the professorship was integrated into the professorship for economics, in particular macroeconomics and spatial economics / regional sciences (Professor Georg Hirte ).

Since 2013 he has been co-editor and editor of the magazine for traffic science .
