Bernhard Zeerleder

Bernhard Zeerleder von Steinegg (baptized March 29, 1788 in Bern , † December 5, 1862 in Hüttwilen ) was a Swiss conservative politician and member of the patrician Zeerleder family .

Zeerleder was a brother of Ludwig and Karl Zeerleder and grandson of Albrecht von Haller . In 1805 he entered Austrian service, was Bernese Grand Councilor from 1827 to 1831, and in 1847 he joined the Sonderbund as a “fanatical opponent of revolutionary ideas and the radicals ” . He fought as a major against the federal army, was arrested, released by General Dufour and moved to Meersburg . In his absence “he was sentenced to prison by a military court”, returned in 1849 after an amnesty to Thurgau Castle (which he acquired in 1814) and wrote “historical works”.

Zeerleder's estate is in the Bern Burger Library .
