Bernhard von Westerholt (* unknown; † April 25, 1609 ) was a Protestant canon in Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Bernhard von Westerholt came from the Westphalian noble family von Westerholt and was the son of Bernhard von Westerholt zu Lembeck and his wife Sybilla von Altenbochum. His brother Johann Bernhard (1600–1664) was a canon in Münster. His brother Matthias succeeded his father and became master of Lembeck.

Act

In 1575, Bernhard received the cathedral praise from Raban von Hörde and was emancipated that same year. Two years later he was one of the founders of the youth party in the cathedral chapter , which professed the Protestant faith . On the Chapter Day on November 12, 1575, ten capitulars were Protestant; sixteen were Catholic . On November 24, 1586 he was elected provost of St. Mauritz. In May and June 1587 he was a member of the Münster embassy to Elector Ernst and received instructions from the cathedral chapter. Bernhard made a will on April 9, 1609. In this he considered a number of pious foundations as well as his siblings and nieces.
