Bernward Schmidt

Bernward Schmidt (* 1977 in Regensburg ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian and church historian .

Life

Schmidt studied Catholic theology and history at the Universities of Freiburg im Breisgau and Münster from 1998 to 2004 . From 2004 to 2011 he was a research assistant at the Chair for Medieval and Modern Church History at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Münster with Hubert Wolf , and in the 2011 summer semester he worked there as an academic senior councilor.

In 2009 Schmidt started working with Hubert Wolf in Münster with a thesis on the learned and theological environment of the Roman Inquisition and Index Congregation in the 17th and 18th centuries. Century to Dr. theol. PhD . From October 2011 Schmidt taught as a junior professor for church history and European identity formation at the Institute for Catholic Theology at RWTH Aachen University . In the summer semester of 2016, he was in the chair for Middle and New Church History at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt . From October 2016 to July 2017 he was Hubert Wolf's chair for Middle and Modern Church History at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster.

Since October 2018 he has held the chair for Middle and New Church History at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt .
