Beroe (wet nurse of Semele)
Beroe ( Greek Βερόη ) is in Greek mythology the wet nurse of Semele , a lover of Zeus .
Ovid and Hyginus Mythographus report that Hera , the jealous wife of Zeus, assumes the form of Beroe and in this form persuades Semele to address a request to Zeus: To convince himself that he is really Zeus, he should he show himself to her in all his splendor. Since she cannot be talked out of Zeus' request, he fulfills her wish, whereupon Semele is destroyed by his shine.
Nonnos of Panopolis also mentions a wet nurse of Semele, who remains nameless with him.
