Career

Carter was registered as an amateur with the AFC New Brighton from 1931 . In the 1931/32 season he made four appearances in the Third Division North , when six different players occupied the position of right winger during the season (in addition to Carter, these were Robert Curr , Tommy Lewis , Archie Pollock , Bill Ratcliffe and Sam Spencer ) , while Jimmy Smedley played all 40 league games on the left winger position . He spent most of his time at New Brighton in the reserve team, this did not change in the 1932/33 season , when he was promoted to professional. The runner row was mostly made up of Smedley, Ratcliffe and David Robb , Carter was only called up as a middle runner in a 3-5 home defeat against Barnsley FC . As a result, he joined Winsford United in the Cheshire County League , where he was also a professional from July 1933.
