Herbert "Bert" Hallows (* in Little Lever ; † unknown) was an English football player .

Career

Hallows, the fifth of seven children, was a stone mason ; his older brother James Hallows was named Wisden Cricketers of the Year , as was his nephew Charlie Hallows . With his father of the same name, Bert Hallows played together for Southport Central in the Lancashire League at the turn of the century, for the first time in March 1898. The following two seasons Bert Hallows played as a regular on the center runner position , in 1899 he was runner- up with the club. In May 1900, Hallows was signed by Manchester City first division . At that time, Everton FC was still registered with the Football League , and the transfer was sanctioned by the Football League at the end of June.

In the following months he was in Manchester's reserve team in the Lancashire Combination for use, his only competitive appearance in the first team dated January 12, 1901, when he replaced the regular middle runner Buxton Smith on the occasion of an away game at Nottingham Forest . Hallows formed together with Bobby Moffat and Billy Holmes the runner row and prepared the interim 1-0 opening goal by Joseph Cassidy with a "great pass", but the game ended with a 2-4 defeat. The Manchester Evening News concluded: "He was of little use against Calvey [note: Forest center forward] and the experiment is unlikely to be repeated."

For the 1901/02 season he returned to Southport Central and won the late final of the Rawcliffe Charity Cup 1900/01 in January 1902 with the club by a 3-0 win over Crewe Alexandra . In August 1902 he moved on to league rivals Rochdale Town , he led the club as team captain in the 1902/03 season. In the following years Hallows appeared as a cricketer for Little Lever.
