The Bertha von Suttner School is located in the middle between the two districts of Mörfelden and Walldorf and symbolizes the imaginary center of the city of Mörfelden-Walldorf in the Groß-Gerau district . It is surrounded by fields and there is a tree nursery in the immediate vicinity. The archery facility of the local sports club is also nearby. A footpath and bike path connecting both parts of the city leads directly past the back of the school grounds. building

The Bertha von Suttner School has an extensive school campus with several buildings. Here the students are taught in four buildings with a total of 6 building sections. The class system: B, E, R, T, H and A comes from the namesake and has existed since the 2013/14 school year. The different years are separated, so since 2014 there has been a separate building for the upper school (abibertha), the years 5 and 6 also study in an extra building (small bertha). The cafeteria, administration and school management are housed in the largest building with grades 7 to 10 (large bertha). A large image of Bertha-von-Suttner is attached to it. In addition to a grass pitch, there are two large sports halls, a foot and basketball cage, and a sprint course.

School profile

The Bertha von Suttner School is an integrated comprehensive school with upper secondary school , which means that all students are initially taught together. Only from grade 7 onwards there is a division into A-course (grammar school level), B-course (secondary school level) and C-course (secondary school level) in the subjects of mathematics and English. These courses are taught by different teachers. In German, from grade 8 onwards, there is a division into an extension course (e-course) for high-performance students with higher requirements and the basic course. E and G courses have lessons together in the class. In grade 9 there are also subdivisions into E and G courses in French , Spanish and chemistry. In German, the E and G courses are spatially separated in the 9th school year. In physics, this takes place from year 10 onwards. High-performance students can attend the upper level after completing the 10th grade and take the Abitur. The school is a cultural school and has been a European school since 2012 , so there is a bilingual offer from the 10th grade onwards. Self-organized learning occupies an important place in the main subjects. Since October 2017 there has also been an all-day offer (currently GTS Profil1 - on the way to Profile 2). There is also funding for the gifted. Numerous working groups and participation in competitions allow the students a wide range of extracurricular activities. The chess group of the Bertha von Suttner School is particularly successful and has achieved many successes. In addition to the cafeteria with hot meals, there is also a kiosk available to students. Based on Bertha-von-Suttner , who won the Nobel Peace Prize , the school has been awarding the Peace Prize for many years.

School social work

As in many schools, there is also social work in schools (SiS), which serves both students and teachers as a point of contact in the event of conflicts in everyday school life. Preventing and combating violence and vandalism are also part of the job.
