Bertha Rogers No. 1–27 is an exploration well by GHK and Lone Star to search for natural gas in the Anadarko Basin in the USA . From 1974 to 1979 it held the world record for the deepest bore in the world.

The well is located in Washita County , Oklahoma , approximately 32 km (20 miles) east of Sayre , 18 km (11 miles) west of Cordell and south of Burns Flat .

A pipe with an extra large diameter was specially made for the borehole. Drilling began on November 12, 1972 and continued through April 18, 1974 (press release date). The average advance was 18 m (60  ft ) per day. The final depth was 9,583 m (31,441 ft) in the Arbuckle Formation where the bit got stuck in liquid sulfur . In between they had also come across hydrogen sulfide . At a depth of 9,520 m, Cambrian carbonate rock was penetrated. Pressures up to 171,231 kPa (24,835  psi ) were used. The cost was estimated at $ 7 million and no commercially viable hydrocarbon deposits were found, some gas was present. The borehole was cemented back and the 3350 m - 4020 m section in the Granite Wash was completed for gas production.

The hole outperformed Baden No. 1-28 at a depth of 9,159 m (30,050 ft) in Beckham County from 1970 to 1972, in which the same companies were involved.

It was exceeded by the Soviet Kola well on June 6, 1979 . In the US, the depth was not exceeded until 2004.
