Berthe Noufflard

Berthe Noufflard , née Langweil (born July 5, 1886 in Paris , † October 11, 1971 there ) was a French portrait painter. She was married to André Noufflard .

biography

Berthe Noufflard was born as the daughter of Florine Langweil , a well-known art dealer, like her sister in an art-loving environment. Artists such as Henri Riviére , Jacques-Émile Blanche and Alexis Rouart frequented the Langweil household .

The first pictures were taken in her youth; thus pictures from 1904 are known. From 1905 she took lessons from Jacques-Émile Blanche. She achieved her first success with the acceptance of one of her pictures at the Autumn Salon in 1907 at the Société nationale des beaux-arts . In 1910 she met André Noufflard through her teacher Jacques-Émile Blanche. From this year she also attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière , where she took the course with Lucien Simon . The two married in 1911. In 1914 her husband was drafted into the Italian army and Berthe Noufflard stayed behind in Paris. In 1915 the first daughter, Henriette was born. In addition to painting, she also began making dolls. These are exhibited in the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris , among others . In 1920 the second daughter, Geneviève, was born. The Touring Club de France commissioned her in 1922 to create several dolls with a regional character, which were also carried out. Furthermore, several exhibitions with dolls were organized.

Berthe Noufflard traveled a lot with her husband and also with Henri Rivière, who was a close friend of the family. Berthe Noufflard first spent the beginning of the Second World War near Toulouse and then on her country estate in the Dordogne , where Rivière would also survive the war years.

Over 700 amateur films made between 1925 and 1940 by Noufflard and his wife have survived .

Noufflard exhibited at the renowned Brame & Lorenceau gallery and Paul Durand-Ruel . Furthermore, she was represented with numerous pictures in the salons of the Société nationale des beaux-arts , Salon des indépendants and the Salon des Tuileries .
