Berthold Günther

Berthold Günther (born November 21, 1930 in Wellesweiler ; † December 18, 1985 ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Berthold Günther grew up in Wellesweiler and did an apprenticeship as a commercial clerk. He was director of the Neunkirchen Zoo for sixteen years . His nickname was "Boy".

He was also politically active for many years: from 1956 to 1974 and again from 1979 on he was a member of the Neunkirchen city ​​council , from 1960 to 1964 an alderman and from 1968 to 1974 chairman of the SPD's city council group. From 1974 to 1979 he was a member of the district council of the Neunkirchen district . In 1974 he took up the post of Lord Mayor of Neunkirchen, but was defeated by Paul Kolb , who was also a member of the SPD. In 1970 he was elected to the Saarland state parliament for the first time , to which he belonged until his death.

In Wellesweiler, the Berthold-Günther-Platz (previously: Zum Ochsenwald) was named after him.
