After completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter, Niedermoser attended the Schlierbach Abbey grammar school, where he entered after graduating in 1934. He studied theology at the University of Innsbruck and was ordained a priest in Linz in 1939. Then he was active in the pastoral care. In 1942 he was arrested by the Gestapo . He was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp until 1945 . After his return he was again employed as a pastor until he was elected abbot in 1955, one month after the death of his predecessor Alois Wiesinger . As such, he had the collegiate church renovated and the business operations expanded. After his resignation in 1971, he worked as a sick chaplain in Linz, where he died in 1996.
