Bertil Malmberg (phonetician)

Bertil Malmberg (born April 22, 1913 in Helsingborg ; † October 8, 1994 ) was a Swedish phonetician, Romance philologist and general linguist.

Malmberg studied in Lund , Grenoble and Paris . He received his doctorate in Lund in 1940 with the publication of Le roman du comte de Poitiers. Poème français du XIIIe siècle (Lund 1940). From 1950 to 1969 he occupied the newly created chair for phonetics at Lund University , and from 1969 the chair for general linguistics there. In 1947 he founded the journal Studia Linguistica with Stig Wikander . He was co-editor of the International Review for Applied Linguistics (IRAL) journal.

Malmberg was an honorary doctor of the Sorbonne and a member of the Legion of Honor.

Bertil Malmberg was the father of the cabaret artist Adde Malmberg (* 1955).
