Content focus

In Bertram Zotz's scientific research, problems of religious marriage law and church membership are in the foreground. He dealt with the complex question of the canonical validity of a marriage if the partners agree in advance to limit the number of children.

In addition, Zotz examines the question of which theological and canonical criteria allow physical persons to be Catholics. The Codex Iuris Canonici , the code of law of the Catholic Church and other provisions of canon law define persons as “Catholics” who have been baptized in or accepted into the Roman Catholic Church. However , there are no clear legal provisions as to what specifically makes baptisms a baptism of the Catholic Church and the requirements for legally effective membership of the Catholic Church. Bertram Zotz examined this problem from canon law and state church law dimensions.
