Bertrand Teyou

Bertrand Zepherin Teyou (born March 17, 1969 , † January 22, 2020 in Douala ) was a Cameroonian writer .

In his book La Belle de la république bananière: Chantal Biya, de la rue au palais (The beautiful from the banana republic: Chantal Biya, from the street to the palace), he traces Chantal Biya's career from simple origins to première dame . On November 3, 2010, he was arrested during a book signing in a hotel in Duala . His books were destroyed. He was sentenced to the payment of 2,030,150 francs CFA (approx. € 3,000 at the exchange rate at the time), alternatively to two years imprisonment. Teyou could not pay and was detained. His imprisonment sparked an urgent action campaign by Amnesty International .

On April 29, 2011, he was released after acquaintances and supporters had paid the required amount for him.
