Chantal Biya (born December 4, 1970 in Cameroon as Chantal Vigouroux ) has been the wife of Paul Biya , the second president of Cameroon , since April 23, 1994 . She is known for her extravagant hairstyles and luxurious clothing style, which is why she is also called "la Lionne du Cameroun" (the lioness from Cameroon).

Childhood and studies

Chantal Vigouroux is the daughter of Rosette Ndongo Mengolo and Georges Vigouroux. She was born in Dimako , East Cameroon Region , and grew up in Yaoundé .

Life

In November 2010, Bertrand Teyou published a book entitled La belle de la république bananière: Chantal Biya, de la rue au palais (The beauty from the banana republic: Chantal Biya, from the street to the palace) in which he made Chantal's rise simple relationships with the Première Dame . Teyou was subsequently arrested. Amnesty International and PEN protested the arrest. Amnesty International called Teyou a prisoner of conscience . He was released on May 2, 2011 when a patron paid his fine to receive treatment for his deteriorating health.

Chantal Biya is the mother of four children. The first two children come from a premarital relationship.

Like her predecessor Jeanne-Irène Biya , Chantal Biya is active in social areas and is the founder and chairwoman of the Chantal-Biya Foundation .

Honors

The Grand Prix Chantal Biya cycle race named after her has been held once a year since 2001 .
