Jeanne-Irène Biya

Jeanne-Irène Biya (born October 12, 1935 in Endom , † July 29, 1992 in Yaounde ) was the first wife of Paul Biya , who has been President of Cameroon since 1982 .

The wedding of the Jeanne-Irène Atyam born first wife Biya with the later Cameroonian President was on 2 September 1961 in Antony , a southern suburbs of Paris instead. She studied at the Nantes Midwifery School and after her return to Cameroon worked as a qualified midwife in the Baudelocque pavilion in the central hospital of Yaoundé . She was socially committed, especially for children.

In connection with the death of the First Lady of Cameroon, who officially died after a brief illness, and the simultaneous presence of Paul Biya at a conference in Dakar , rumors arose in Cameroon that the death of Jeanne-Irène Biya had come about in an unnatural way and that the President himself stayed out of the country at the time for alibi reasons.

Jeanne-Irène Biya died in Yaoundé at the age of 58 and was buried in Mvomeka'a , the birthplace of her husband.
