Johann Friedrich Heinrich Panzer (born March 25, 1764 in Nuremberg , † November 15, 1815 in Eltersdorf ) was a German Protestant clergyman and theologian .

Life

Johann Friedrich Heinrich Panzer was the son of the clergyman Georg Wolfgang Panzer (1729–1805) and his wife Rosine Helene Jantke († 1806), daughter of the Altdorf medical professor Johann Jakob Jantke (1687–1768). His older brother was the botanist Georg Wolfgang Franz Panzer (1755–1829).

Initially raised by his father, he attended the school of St. Sebald in Nuremberg for six years , where his father was a clergyman. There he learned not only the sciences but also the Latin language . The vice-principal Rosenauer, the rector Munker, as well as three private teachers took care of the training: a deacon Schramm, a vice-principal Jacobi and a pastor Felbinger.

From 1782 Panzer studied at the University of Altdorf . There his teachers were Johann Andreas Michael Nagel and Georg Andreas Will as well as Schwarz, Johann Augustin Dietelmair and Junge. In 1784 he moved to the University of Erlangen , where Joachim Ehrenfried Pfeiffer was one of his teachers and he also lived in his house.

Panzer completed his studies in 1786, passed his theological exam and was candidate for a preacher in Nuremberg . He preached to St. Sebald several times. Then he became a catechist at St. Jakob in Nuremberg. He preached there on public holidays and Wednesdays. On June 21, 1790, the Pegnesian Flower Order accepted him under the name Irenander II as number 208. His parents had also belonged to the order.

In 1797 Panzer was ordained in Altdorf and appointed pastor to Eltersdorf and Tennenlohe on November 1st . However, there were disputes there, so he was temporarily removed from office. In February 1798 he was able to officiate again as vicar , in autumn he gave a trial sermon and passed an examination in Bayreuth , so that he could take up his post in both communities again.

Panzer died in 1815 at the age of 51.

family

On December 3, 1797, Panzer married Magdalene Philippine Friederike Staudner, the daughter of the Nuremberg councilor Johann Leonhard Staudner, who later served as court advisor. The marriage had five children. Only two of the children were still alive in 1806: Rosina Friederika Helena Panzer and Regina Johann Barbara Panzer.

Act

Panzer was considered a scholar who had a thorough knowledge of all theological disciplines. He also dealt with church history , for example in his work Georg Peßler, last provost of Nuremberg . He was also the biographer of the reformer Willibald Pirckheimer . He further drew attention to a work by the poet Heinrich Bebel .

Panzer also worked as an amateur engraver . In 1796 he stabbed the area around Lonerstadt , and a portrait of Johannes Regiomontanus comes from him .
