Bertrand de Montfavez

Bertrand de Montfavez (* around 1270 in Castelnau-Montratier , † December 1, 1342 in Avignon ) was a French cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Life

After obtaining a doctorate in law from the University of Toulouse , he became a professor of law. Belonging to the cathedral chapter of Lyon and a member of the third order of the Franciscans, his personal friend, Pope John XXII. , him on December 17, 1316 cardinal priest of the titular church of Santa Maria in Aquiro . After the death of John XXII. he took part in the conclave of 1334 , from which Benedict XII. emerged as Pope.

Since 1326 Archpriest of the Lateran Basilica , Pope Benedict XII sent him, together with Cardinal Pedro Gómez Barroso , as papal legate to settle the war between the kings of France and England . But the undertaking, which lasted from 1337 to 1340, was unsuccessful.

Cardinal Bertrand de Montfavez died in Avignon and was buried in the Notre-Dame de Bon-Repose church there.
