The professional association of yoga teachers in Germany , abbreviated to BDY , is a German professional association in the legal form of a registered association with the purpose of representing the interests of yoga teachers . The registered office of the association is in Göttingen .

history

The club was in the May 1, 1967 Berlin eighteen people founded . The Berlin neurologist Wladimir Lindenberg was also present as a guest. The constituent general assembly elected the yoga teacher Otto Albrecht Isbert from Stuttgart as the first chairman. The goals of the association agreed at the time were to support the idea and implementation of yoga in the German field of work; to expand the field of yoga in research, teaching and practice; to ensure professional training, review and further training of yoga teachers and to represent the professional interests of the affiliated yoga teachers. The number of members is 4,917 (as of March 26, 2019). The association is a member of the European Yoga Union e. V. (EYU), in the Federal Association for Prevention and Health Promotion e. V. (BVPG), in the Federal Association of Company Health Management e. V. (BBGM), in the Bundesverband Managed Care e. V. (BMC), in the forum value orientation in further education e. V. (FWW) and in the umbrella association of further education organizations e. V. (DVWO).

membership

The association brings together representatives of different yoga styles. The prerequisite for membership is completion of at least two years of yoga teaching training with at least 500 teaching hours. In contrast to the Professional Association of Independent Health Science Yoga Teachers e. V., additional basic occupation in the form of a scientific degree or qualified professional training in a biological, medical or educational field is not a prerequisite for membership in the BDY.

In addition to the BDY, there are other associations in which yoga teachers are organized, e.g. B. the professional association of independent health science yoga teachers e. V., the Association of Yoga Vidya Teachers e. V. or the Association of Yoga Teachers in the Kneipp Association e. V.

controversy

On January 1, 2014, health insurances established a cooperation group for the cross-checking of prevention offers according to § 20 Abs. 4 Nr. 1 SGB V Social Security Code (Germany) , which as the Central Prevention Center also certifies the offer of yoga courses. According to the regulations of the Prevention Guide in the version of December 10, 2014, proof of a state-recognized professional or university degree is a necessary prerequisite for the funding of yoga courses by the health insurances in addition to the yoga teaching training . The BDY rejects this requirement for a basic occupation. In addition, in its activity report for the 2013/2014 financial year, the board of the BDY criticized the bureaucratic and data-technical effort of the new audit procedure that was too high. In the opinion of the BDY, the BDY qualification is a sufficient qualification for admission as a provider of preventive measures and additional proof of a basic occupation is therefore not required. In accordance with the mandates contained in the Prevention Act of July 25, 2015, the guidelines were further developed and reformulated in 2018. Among other things, the provider qualifications in behavior-related prevention have been reorganized. From October 1, 2020, providers of yoga courses can also apply for certification exclusively with a yoga teaching training, if the content and scope of the yoga teaching training corresponds to the minimum standards defined in the guidelines. Proof of a basic occupation is then no longer required. With this, the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds implements a longstanding requirement of the BDY and recognizes yoga teaching training as an independent training.
