The Securvita BKK (also Securvita Krankenkasse ; spelling : SECURVITA ) based in Würzburg is a German company health insurance fund in the statutory health insurance system . It was founded in 1996 as a public corporation by Securvita Holding AG , a sales company for health insurance and financial services, in Hamburg . The health insurance company was open nationwide between 1997 and February 2018. Since February 2018, due to a change in the statutes by the Federal Insurance Office, it has no longer been open for the states of Brandenburg, Bremen and Saarland.

Contribution rates

Since January 1, 2009 the contribution rates have been standardized by the legislator. Until December 31, 2014, the Securvita BKK did not levy any additional contribution that is independent of the health insurance fund . Since January 1, 2015, it has been charging an income-related additional contribution of 0.9 percent of the underlying income. On July 1, 2015 there was an increase to 1.1 percent, on October 1, 2016 to an above-average 1.4 percent and on July 1, 2017 to 1.7 percent (thus the highest contribution rate of a German health insurance company). From 2019 the additional contribution will be 1.1 percent.

In the early years, up to around 2001, Securvita offered health insurance with contribution rates below the average, but then increased it steadily in the following years.

Disputes with the supervisory authority

Therapy methods

In sample lawsuits against the Federal Insurance Office , Securvita advocated the possibility of financing therapies not recognized by conventional medicine by health insurance companies. In 2005, the Federal Social Court allowed Securvita to finance a number of controversial therapies and gave it the freedom to reimburse special therapies (including anthroposophic medicine and homeopathy ). Since then there have been additional offers and special services such as naturopathic treatments , gentle medicine and acupuncture .

Holdings

In further disputes with the Federal Insurance Office, the question arises of the extent to which health insurances are allowed to participate in health centers. In 2012, the Hamburg Regional Social Court decided that a health center should not be operated as planned. In January 2013, the same court ruled in favor of the Securvita BKK in a further seven lawsuits that the Securvita BKK had brought against the supervisory authority. The supervisory authority issued unjustified orders against the Securvita BKK.

At the beginning of 2011, the Hamburg public prosecutor's office investigated six suspects on charges of unfaithfulness. The Federal Insurance Office, as the Securvita supervisory authority, had filed a criminal complaint on suspicion of breach of trust. In September 2011 the business premises of the Securvita were searched by the Hamburg State Criminal Police Office and the public prosecutor's office . In January 2017, the proceedings were discontinued due to a lack of suspicion.
