Allegations of surreptitious advertising

In December 2007, allegations were raised that Kiewel had misused the ZDF platform to operate paid surreptitious advertising for Weight Watchers . Kiewel then admitted to having untruthfully denied a contractual relationship with the provider of slimming courses in the Johannes B. Kerner program .

According to information from the news magazine Der Spiegel , the PR contract from 2001 included an annual basic remuneration of 180,000 DM and a further payment of 15,000 DM for photo shoots and first-class air travel and overnight stays in first-class hotels . Shortly afterwards, at the end of 2007, ZDF and MDR announced that they would terminate the contract with Andrea Kiewel.

In October 2008, Kiewel appeared again for the first time on ZDF as one of six celebrities in the quiz show Good to know , in which donations were collected for Welthungerhilfe . On New Year's Eve 2008 she hosted the ZDF hit party and, since 2009, the TV garden again . In 2010 the Kiewel case was brought up again in the media against the background of allegations of surreptitious advertising against the television garden .

Reviews

ZDF television garden

“[…] For seven years, Kiewel hosted the“ TV Garden ”, a bizarre mix of the Federal Garden Show and all sorts of music. Always a little breathless, always a touch too happy to appear authentic. Because: when she laughs, her eyes don't laugh too. But for her regular audience she is the always cheerful girl from the east. Because the former competitive swimmer in the national team of the GDR also goes - without batting an eyelid - where it hurts. After the show she jumps into the water with clothes on. For that, they especially love their male fans. [...] "

- Antje Hildebrandt : Frankfurter Rundschau on Kiewel in the ZDF television garden

“[...] Kiwi leads through a show that she has made her own. She embodies this television garden. She is practically at home there. "Living room," she once says. She changes the show a little bit by herself and apparently without agreement, she even calms down Kelly Family fans in the audience. She is a hit fuzzian, she is a betting operator in the "Wetten, dass ...?" Class and consumer educator. All in one. [...] Yes, Kiwi is still the "relentless natural wonder of television babbling culture", but she is committed to everything she does, and this is exactly what she does very, very well. She is the best babbler that German television could ask for. "

Objection - The show of legal errors

“[...] 'Service Comedy' is what RTL calls its new format. With the mixture of right- wing humbug à la file 09 and research joke like the “restaurant tester”, the extremely supple Andrea Kiewel actually goes through another effective image correction. Please don't laugh: she's now a people's enlightener. [...] "

- Christian Buß : Der Spiegel on “Einspruch! The show of legal errors "

"[...] Surreptitious advertiser Andrea Kiewel returns to the TV screen with legal advice. So stupid that it is almost justifiable. […] In addition to entertainment, such programs only serve the widespread righteousness. [...] "Being right and being right are two different things," lectures Justitia Kiewel with all the legal wisdom at her command. [...] "

- Gregor Dolak : Focus Online on “Einspruch! The show of legal errors "

Private life

Andrea Kiewel is the mother of two sons (* 1986 and 2001). She married for the first time at the age of 19 and entered into her second marriage at 34.
