Yoga teacher
A yoga teacher teaches yoga . The lessons are given either in courses, regularly held groups, as multi-day or multi-week seminars or as individual lessons. In India , the motherland of yoga, ashrams are usually taught by a teacher .

Yoga teacher is not a protected professional title , so that people who have completed a yoga teacher training, have been trained by Indian gurus and are in their tradition or became self-taught yoga teachers, work.

There are different yoga teacher training courses, which differ significantly in type and scope. The statutory health insurance companies have developed guidelines for recognition in order to guarantee a minimum of quality of the courses they support: Accordingly, the training must last at least 2 years and, in addition to technical content, also include medical basics such as anatomy , physiology , psychosomatics and breathing .
Most statutory health insurances support participation in one yoga course per year. The prerequisite for this is that the instructor has adequate prior training. Recognized qualifications are:
- Psychologists (degrees: Diploma, Magister, Master, Bachelor)
- Educators (degrees: Diploma, Magister, teacher with 1st and 2nd state examination)
- Social pedagogue and social worker (degrees: Diploma, Magister, Master, Bachelor)
- Social scientist (degrees: Diploma, Magister, Master, Bachelor)
- Health scientist (degrees: Diploma, Magister, Master, Bachelor), doctor
- Sports scientist (degrees: diploma, state examination, Magister / Master, Bachelor)
- Sports teacher and gymnastics teacher (degrees: state recognized, master, bachelor)
- Physiotherapist , physiotherapist , occupational therapist , educator
- Health educator, (degrees: Diploma, Magister, Master, Bachelor)
- Remedial teacher .
Since the Saarland Chamber of Commerce and Industry started offering a four-year training course for certified yoga teachers in January 2007, a discussion has been going on as to whether this is a sensible way of ensuring the quality of this profession or whether other options are more suitable.
