Bettiah ( Hindi बेतिया ) is a city in the state of Bihar in eastern India . It is the capital of the Pashchim Champaran district . Bettiah has the status of a City Council ( Nagar parishad ). It is about 198 km from Bihar's capital, Patna .

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, the population of the city is 132,209 and that of the agglomeration is 155,518. Bettiah has a gender ratio of 901 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 80.6% in 2011. Almost 64.1% of the population are Hindus , around 33.7% are Muslims and around 2.2% belong to other religions. 14.4% of the population are children under 6 years of age.

Bettiah's climate is characterized by high temperatures and high rainfall, especially in the monsoon season. The subtype of the Köppen-Geiger climate classification for this climate is "Cfa" (Humid Subtropical Climate).
