Movement Licht-Leben , also known as "Luce e Vita", is an association of believers in the Roman Catholic Church recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity as a spiritual community of lay people , which is dedicated to the education and care of young people. It was founded in Poland in 1954 under the name "Ruch Światło-Źycie" (RŚŹ), and according to its own estimates it has 100,000 members in Poland. It was consecrated in 1973 by Archbishop Karol Cardinal Wojtyła , later Pope John Paul II , the "Immaculate Mother of the Church".

In 1954, the priest Franciszek Blachnicki (1921–1987) began to build up the light-life movement in the diocese of Katowice . He used it of the initiated by him "works of the oases" in which an altar boy , families, young people and adults " oasis retreat visited". Between the years 1963–1973, the movement's main focus was on youth education. Since 1970, the number of participants in a retreat and has retreats on students , workers , priests and religious who extended. On June 11, 1973, then Cardinal Karol Wojtyła consecrated the movement in honor of the “Immaculate Mother of the Church”, which regards the movement as a constitutive act.

The name for the “movement light-life” is derived from the call for renewal from the Second Vatican Council : “light-life, new man, new community and new culture”.

“The goal and the program of the movement express the most briefly the Greek words“ FWS ”(light) and“ ZWH ”(life), which are inscribed in the form of a cross FWS-ZWH and express the formula light-life, which the Means unity of God-given light and life, that is, witness to a Christian life. We believe that the author of this unity is the Holy Spirit. He causes the light of understanding, the light of conscience, the light of the word of God, the light of Christ as a personal example and light of the church in the formation of mature Christians to give birth to a new person in the community of the church "

The logo of the Licht-Leben movement is a cross ; on the vertical bar is the inscription ΦΩΣ , i.e. H. “Light”, on the horizontal bar is the inscription ΖΩΗ , i. H. "Life".

Organization and dissemination

There are no registered members, whoever wants to become a member of the movement decides out of his own sense of responsibility. Active members are integrated into "Diaconia of the Light-Life Movement" according to their area of ​​interest, task or activity. In these diakonia , pastoral tasks, educational and biblical work are taken on at all church levels ( parish , deanery or diocese ). The members meet in local groups and are regularly affiliated with a parish. Heads of local and regional diakonia are " moderators ", the heads of middle and upper management levels are "general moderators ". The moderators meet annually for a "national consultation".

Further movements of light-life exist in Slovakia , the Czech Republic , Russia , Ukraine , Belarus and Bolivia . In Germany , Lithuania , Austria , Canada and Australia , Polish Catholics have come together to form movements Light-Life. The "Campaign for the Liberation of Man" (care for alcoholics ), the "Diakonie der Liberation" ( evangelization ) and the "Diakonie des Lebens" ( protection of unborn life ) are under the central direction of the Licht-Leben movement . The Center for Movement, Light and Life is located in Krościenko nad Dunajcem (Poland). The movement publishes “OAZA” (every two months) and Eleuteria e Domowy Kościół every three months .
