Krościenko nad Dunajcem is a village and health resort in the powiat Nowotarski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with about 6750 inhabitants.
geography
The place lies on the Dunajec between the Gorcen (in the northwest), Sandezer Beskids ( Beskid Sądecki , in the east) and Pieninen (in the south).
history
The place probably developed below the Zamek Pieniński Castle (mentioned in 1241). The city was founded by King Casimir the Great in 1348 under German law .
During the first partition of Poland , Krościenko came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804). From 1822 the town belonged to the Gross family with Grywałd and Tylka . In 1827, Henryk Gross began building the spa and the mineral water bottling plant. The annual production amounted to 40 thousand bottles. However, the spa lost competition with neighboring Szczawnica .
In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Krościenko came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .
After 1932 Krościenko lost the town charter. In the years 1972–1981 Krościenko was incorporated into Szczawnica.
From 1975 to 1998 Krościenko was part of the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .
