Maksymilian Tytus Huber

Maksymilian Tytus Huber (born January 4, 1872 in Krościenko nad Dunajcem , Galicia , Austria-Hungary , † December 9, 1950 in Krakow , Poland ) was a Polish civil engineer .

Huber studied from 1889 to 1884 at the Polytechnic in Lemberg , where he published scientific publications as a student. After military service, he studied for a year at the University of Berlin (mathematics and astronomy). He then worked as an assistant in Lviv for a year and then taught in Krakow. In 1908 he became a professor at the Polytechnic in Lemberg. During the First World War he was taken prisoner by Russia and met Boris Galerkin and Stephen Timoshenko at the University of Kazan . In 1922/23 he was rector of the Lviv Polytechnic. During the German occupation he participated in the underground university and after the war he built the mechanics at the former TH Danzig. In 1949 he became a professor at the AGH in Krakow.

In 1904 he published his strength hypothesis (similar to those of Richard von Mises from 1913 and Heinrich Hencky from 1923, but who did not know Huber's work) and his impact theory (subject of his dissertation). He also developed a theory of orthotropic plates .

With Waclaw Olszak and Witold Nowacki he is considered to be the founder of the Polish School of Applied Mechanics.
